SIMI VALLEY : Hurt Hiker Airlifted From Rocky Peak

Share

An injured hiker was in good condition Sunday after being airlifted to a local hospital by Ventura County firefighters. He fell down a rocky hillside just east of Simi Valley, authorities said.

Rick Harback, 36, of North Hollywood, who has only partial use of his left arm and leg, hit his head Saturday after falling 10 feet on Rocky Peak, said Vicki Crabtree, a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman.

Two of the four friends he was hiking with walked for 45 minutes to a call box on the Simi Valley Freeway and asked for help, Crabtree said. It took a pilot, a crew chief and 13 firefighters about two hours to lift Harback to the roadway from the poison oak patch where he had landed, she added.

He was treated for minor head injuries at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital and released, said Mary Fisher, a nursing supervisor.
