The storm from the Gulf of Alaska that moved into San Diego Monday is expected to dump as much as a quarter-inch of rain today before leaving tonight, the National Weather Service said.

Wind gusts up to 25 m.p.h. and cooler temperatures are also expected today, said forecaster Wilbur Shigehara.

The slow-moving storm was stalled about 200 miles off the Santa Barbara coast Monday afternoon, Shigehara said. High-level winds are keeping the storm center--and the heaviest rains--to the north of San Diego, he said.

The rest of the week looks dry, with a warming trend developing.

Temperatures today at the beaches will range from 63 to 66 degrees, Shigehara said. The surf is at 3 feet, and the ocean is 62 degrees.

Highs along the coast and inland today will range from 65 to 70 degrees, Shigehara said. Temperatures in the mountains today will be in the mid 40s, and from 78 to 82 in the desert, he said.
