San Ysidro
San Diego police turned away more than 1,000 underage spring-break revelers at the U.S.-Mexico border at San Ysidro over the weekend and arrested 15 others, a police spokesman said Monday.
About 1,165 juveniles were not allowed to cross into Mexico because they lacked written and notarized parental consent, said Bill Robinson, police spokesman. Police from the southern division, which covers the San Ysidro border area, arrested 15 people for public drunkenness, curfew violations or disorderly conduct, Robinson said.
Officers also issued 24 citations to pedestrians walking on the freeway, Robinson said.
The previous weekend--the beginning of a weeklong spring break for most San Diego County high school and college students--800 minors were turned away at the border, Robinson said.
