Tom Ford was hired as athletic director at UC Irvine, replacing John Caine. Caine has become a special assistant to Chancellor Jack Peltason.

Ford, 48, was athletic director at the University of Houston from 1984-86 and later director of program development for Raycom, Inc. Ford also is a former manager of the University of Arizona’s extended university in Phoenix.
