OJAI : Hirsch Named to Taylor Ranch Panel

Share

The Ojai City Council on Tuesday chose Winifred Hirsch to serve on a committee to advise California State University on building a four-year college at Taylor Ranch.

Hirsch supports CSU’s choice of Taylor Ranch, a 450-acre parcel north of Ventura. The council itself voted unanimously in January to support the university’s efforts to build a campus in the county, without specifically endorsing the Taylor Ranch site.

“We retain our neutrality on the subject of site location,” Councilman James Loebl said.

Delegates from citizens groups, state agencies and cities will be on the advisory committee, which will be in charge of establishing the framework for the university’s environmental impact report on the site.

In other action, the council chose Councilwoman Nina Shelley to serve as mayor for a year. Loebl was chosen as mayor pro tem.

The council also announced that it will hold an April 24 public hearing to amend the city’s plumbing code to require the use of ultra-low water-flow fixtures in all new buildings or remodeling projects. Under the proposed amendments, all newly installed toilets would have to use no more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush by July 1, and all shower heads would be limited to a maximum 2.5 gallons-per-minute by the same date.

The council also approved a 5% increase in user fees for city recreation facilities, the first price increase since 1986.
