MCI Communications Corp.: The second-largest U.S. long-distance carrier posted first-quarter earnings of $156 million, up 22% over the same period of 1989. Revenue was up 20%, to $1.8 billion. The Washington-based company said traffic volume and the acquisition of a 25% stake in Infonet, an international data services firm, contributed to the results.
