ORGANIZATIONS LOCAL ACTIVITIES

The Conejo Valley Retired Senior Volunteer Program is recruiting men and women, age 60 and over, to volunteer at nonprofit agencies throughout the community. Volunteers are needed to train to become court-appointed special advocates for abused or neglected children. Other opportunities include serving as a house manager or office receptionist for the Conejo Symphony, spending two hours a week visiting house-confined seniors as part of Senior Concern’s Friendly Visitor Program, gardening or office work for the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden, and delivering meals to ill or elderly residents for Meals on Wheels. The Ventura Parks and Recreation departments are accepting registration for the following activities:

A spring grass volleyball league will begin May 14 for six-member co-ed teams. There will be A, B and C divisions. The six-week league will be played at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura. Fees are $70 per team plus $6 per match for referees. For registration and information, call 658-4743.

An excursion to Conejo Valley Days’ carnival and rodeo for youth and adults with physical and developmental disabilities will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28. A $10 fee includes admission and transportation from the Ventura Avenue Adult/Senior Center at 550 N. Ventura Ave. at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is required by calling 658-4726. An outdoor skills course for women will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 in the Santa Monica Mountains. Author and instructor Charlotte Clarke will teach techniques such as self-rescue, finding shelter and water, fire building and gathering wild foods.
