Praise for City Hall

This letter is in response to a letter published April 13 titled “Frustrating Trip To City Hall.”
Our homeowners organization has followed the evolution of the Mulholland Specific Plan for four years and has been City Hall’s most unforgiving critic. However, credit must be given where credit is due.
The design and fate of the unpaved portion of Mulholland Drive was never the subject of this particular plan and its discussion would have been out of place at this public hearing of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee.
This said, we cannot minimize the importance of this issue which was also recognized by Councilman Michael Woo. His motion, which was adopted by the committee, mandating City Council approval for any future changes within the Mulholland right of way will ensure public hearings and input when the time comes.
We feel that credit is due to the committee for carefully studying the complex issues and interests involved and striking a balance which both protects the scenic beauty of Mulholland and addresses most concerns of the more than 19,000 property owners.
The success was more than evidenced by the civilized behavior of the packed council chambers during the hearing.
We urge the City Council to adopt the plan as it has now evolved without further controversy igniting changes.
