Staying Anchored: NBC has quashed rumors that Mary Alice Williams might return to CNN by appointing her co-anchor of “Sunday Today” with Garrick Utley. Williams reportedly had been unhappy about her role at the network following the demise of a prime-time magazine in which she’d been involved. She had been without a prime-time assignment since former “Today” host Jane Pauley began subbing for Tom Brokaw on “NBC Nightly News.” At “Sunday Today” Williams replaces Maria Shriver, who recently left to anchor a new series of prime-time news specials.
