City Hall is trying to help an elderly woman who went to visit a cemetery plot where she planned to be buried alongside family members only to discover it was already occupied by a stranger.

Yong Yu Min, 78, said she purchased the plot at Cheras Catholic Cemetery from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall in 1962 and that she had hoped to be buried there one day alongside her sister and two brothers.

A few days ago, she discovered that her plot was occupied by the remains of a man unknown to her. The Malay Mail Daily published her story on Monday under the headline, “There Is Someone in My Grave.”

A City Hall official said the man in the grave died in 1987 and was supposed to be buried in the nearby Protestant cemetery.

Funeral directors put his body in plot No. 1865 in the Catholic cemetery, instead of plot No. 1865 the Protestant one, she said.

She said she did not understand why there were no complaints until now but that City Hall will try to resolve the problem.
