Taxing Flight: A New York Supreme Court judge Monday ordered hotel magnate Harry Helmsley, 81, to undergo a psychiatric test of his competence to stand trial for tax evasion despite defense claims that the stress of an exam could kill him. The ruling by Judge John Bradley came after state Assistant Atty. Gen. Alfredo Mendez said in court: “On April 5, Harry Helmsley (flew) to Florida . . . . It was our information that he did not go by ambulance or on a stretcher.” The judge ordered Helmsley to return to court May 23 after the test.
