SANTA ANA : Runaway Found in San Fernando Valley
A 14-year-old mentally retarded girl who ran away from her Santa Ana home more than two weeks ago was found by police in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said Tuesday.
Gloria Estelle Rios, who has the mental capacity of a 7- or 8-year-old, was picked up by the Devonshire division of the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday. It wasn’t until Monday, however, that detectives were able to determine her identity, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Larry Wagstaff said.
“She refused to tell police who she was,” Wagstaff said.
Rios, who was reported missing April 7, has a history of running away from home, authorities said. She was in protective custody Tuesday, Wagstaff said.
