Times Mirror and Knight-Ridder Form Ad Venture: Two national advertising sales organizations, Million Market Newspapers/Times Mirror National Marketing and Knight-Ridder Newspaper Sales, will merge June 4. The new company, called Newspapers First, will be based in New York and headed by G. Kingsley Anthony, current president of MMN/TMNM. John Kosanke of Knight-Ridder will serve as executive vice president. The company will reach about 20% of all U.S. adult newspaper readers and serve 37 markets with a combined circulation of 9.5 million daily and 11.8 million on Sundays. Times Mirror Co. owns the Los Angeles Times and other media properties.
