Building Up

Idon’t know what Glenmore Canyon residents are griping about (Glendale Section, April 19). So Homes by Polygon wants to build 61 houses on a hillside above their neighborhood. What’s the big deal? After all, Polygon has a reputation for developing communities that show a sensitivity to the surrounding area.

Just look at what the company did with its Rancho San Rafael community, shoving 550 homes into about a five-acre parcel just east of the Glendale Freeway. Sure, Polygon had to rape, pillage and scar the land, but I know I’d rather see “progress” than a bunch of hills wasted by being left in their natural state.

And, at $1 million per home, Polygon is simply answering a need for more affordable housing in Glendale. Besides, how can we expect to get the city’s population over 500,000 if we don’t build more homes, apartments and condominiums? And you know we certainly can’t build more parks, schools and libraries because that takes up precious land that can be used to build even more housing.

So get with it, Glenmore Canyon residents. After all, you don’t actually live in Glendale because it’s one of the few communities in the shadow of Los Angeles that still has a semblance of a small-town feel, do you? Come on, get real.
