SHORT TAKES : Japan Will Get a Dollywood

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. —
Dolly Parton announced today that her Dollywood Co. has signed agreements with International Industry Development Inc. of Tokyo to negotiate the development of a Dollywood Theme Park in Japan.
The concept calls for the pioneer- and country music-themed Dollywood to be one of seven theme parks connected by a common transportation system. When complete, the cluster of theme parks and recreational facilities would create one of the largest tourist destinations in the world.
After making the announcement with officials from the Japanese firm, Parton presented each with a handmade quilt and then took them for a test spin on the park’s antique Dentzel Carousel, which opens to the public Saturday.
