Bronx Burned Over ‘Bonfire’: The Bronx is heating up over Hollywood’s portrayal of the New York City borough in “The Bonfire of the Vanities.” Borough President Fernando Ferrer said the film “goes out of its way to denigrate the Bronx,” and has asked Warner Bros. to run a statement at the film’s end stressing the borough’s positive aspects. The studio offered to run a disclaimer saying that the fictional film is not intended to reflect actual events or conditions in the Bronx. Ferrer said he also frowned on the studio’s offer to donate $10,000 to the charity of his choice.
