Motorola Plans New Chip Plant in Japan: The assembly plant, to be built on the outskirts of Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture and completed in the spring of 1991, is designed to increase Motorola’s semiconductor assembly capacity in the Far East. It will be Motorola’s second semiconductor plant in Japan and will initially process semi-finished 1-megabit dynamic random access memories and next-generation 4-megabit DRAMs.
