Graffiti Removal

In response to Robert E. Goyette’s idea to punish graffiti vandals with community service (letter, April 19), he will be happy to know that some graffiti vandals actually are cleaning up their own “artwork.”

A volunteer organization known as the Sylmar Graffiti Busters has been using court referrals for over two years now in an effort to rid Sylmar of graffiti. Teen-agers caught doing graffiti in Sylmar are often required to spend their weekends working with the Graffiti Busters, removing their own graffiti and that of their friends. The graffiti vandals are made aware of the time and effort required to clean up their mess. Maybe next time they will think twice before picking up that spray can.
