The trial of Imelda Marcos on fraud charges was postponed until next week today after doctors told the judge that she is suffering from high blood pressure and that it would “not be a good idea” for her to continue.

Judge John F. Keenan sent the jury home, saying it is expected that the former Philippine First Lady will be able to return to court on Monday.

“She said she felt fine but she didn’t look fine to me,” her attorney, Gerald Spence, told the court after Marcos visited the doctor early in the day. He said she will be wearing a device to monitor her blood pressure “wherever she goes.”

The trial was abruptly halted Thursday after a sobbing Marcos fell ill as a customs officer testified that he had found “24 bricks of gold” in her luggage after she and her late husband, ousted President Ferdinand Marcos, fled to Hawaii aboard a U.S. jetliner after he was forced from office
