NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Imelda Marcos Ill, Trial Stalled 1 Day

The New York fraud trial of Imelda Marcos was called off so that a hypertension specialist could treat the former Philippine first lady, who fell ill a day earlier after damaging testimony. Although Mrs. Marcos’ attorneys had said she was expected in court, she did not appear on the advice of a doctor who examined her for high blood pressure. U.S. District Judge John F. Keenan said the trial would resume Monday and that Mrs. Marcos, 60, would wear a portable heart monitor to court.
