A television movie featuring nighttime TV soap stars Patrick Duffy and William Devane went before the cameras in Portland, Ore., today. The movie, “Murder C.O.D.,” stars Duffy of “Dallas” as a police commissioner who tries to track down a serial killer played by Devane of “Knots Landing.” Devane’s character commits murders on his own, then bills the person who stands to benefit from the death. . . . Film rights to the Christian novel “This Present Darkness” have been sold to a Hollywood group, including producer Howard Kazanjian. The sale price was not disclosed. Kazanjian’s work has included “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Return of the Jedi.” “This Present Darkness,” a fictional account of spiritual warfare between angels and demons above a small town, has sold more than 1.3 million copies since it was published in 1986. Kazanjian hopes that the film will be released by a major studio in the summer of 1992.
