A General Electric Corp. subsidiary in Erie has signed a contract to build 100 locomotives for Mexico’s national railroad as part of a $168-million deal, company executive said.

GE Transportation Systems officials announced at their annual shareholders meeting that the agreement was with Mexico’s leading leasing company, Arrendadora International. The Mexican company will lease the 100 GE Super 7 locomotives to that country’s national railroad, Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico.

The deal also includes maintenance parts, officials said.
