WORLD : Lithuania Offers Compromise

MOSCOW —
Lithuania’s president said today that the Baltic nation will consider a temporary suspension of some of its pro-independence laws that have driven the Kremlin to impose a partial economic embargo.
President Vytautas Landsbergis agreed to the step in a letter to French and West German leaders who last week proposed that such a compromise would help start negotiations between the republic and the Kremlin.
