SHORT TAKES : Soviet Musicians Eye Finland
A group of top Soviet musicians, many of them Jews, may leave their own country and settle in neighboring Finland, a Finnish city official said today. The Moscow Soloists have had talks with the city of Kuopio in eastern Finland about setting up a base there and may soon move with their families for a few years or even permanently, Jukka Uschanov said. “Many of them are Jews and they say the situation for Jews in the Soviet Union is not very good just now,” he said.
The chamber orchestra of 29, conducted by Yuri Bashmet, includes musicians from Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev and Lvov conservatories and the Moscow Music School.
