NAMES IN THE NEWS : Mother Teresa to See Ill Children
Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa said in Bucharest today she will visit children suffering from AIDS in Romania. Mother Teresa, 79, who arrived in Bucharest Wednesday, also said she will open a permanent mission in Romania of her Sisters of Charity order.
Asked at a news conference whether she will visit some of Romania’s 800 children afflicted with the killer disease AIDS, she said: “We are going to visit and see the children.” She said she will consider visiting a marathon anti-government demonstration in Bucharest’s central University Square--but not for political reasons.
“Love and peace are what is needed,” she said. “I never involve myself with politics but if the demonstrators are hungry and need bread I will help them.”
