P. M. BRIEFING : East German McDonald’s Next
The McDonald’s fast-food chain announced today it plans to expand its successful West German operation into East Germany next year.
Walter Rettenwender, chairman of the board of the West German branch of the hamburger restaurant chain, said that the first contract for an East German restaurant will be signed within two months and that construction will begin this year.
“I am thinking in terms of five to 10 restaurants being in operation next year,” Rettenwender said.
Rettenwender said McDonald’s already has two restaurants in Yugoslavia, two in Hungary and one in Moscow. Others are planned for Poland and Czechoslovakia.
