Members of the St. Regis Indian Reservation’s militant Warrior Society refused to lay down their weapons and negotiate the question of casino gambling on Mohawk land until Canadian and New York governments end a “state of siege.” New York state troopers, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Ontario and Quebec provincial police continued to patrol the reservation, which was quiet two days after police quelled fighting sparked by the tribal dispute over gambling.
