Hidden Hills Country Estates opens today in the west San Fernando Valley, with eight large houses on 1- to 4-acre lots.

Developed by Continental Communities of Woodland Hills, the project--the largest in the gate-guarded city of Hidden Hills--will have 62 houses at build-out. The eight houses in the first phase have five to eight bedrooms, up to nine baths, 5,800 to nearly 10,000 square feet of living area and are priced from $2.3 million to about $4.5 million, according to Robert E. Zuckerman of Continental Communities. First move-ins are planned for June.

The houses feature up to nine baths, dining rooms with butler’s pantries, libraries, oak spiral staircases, master suites with fireplaces, sitting rooms and separate dressing room and, in most plans, a motor court and a porte-cochere.

All 62 houses will border the community’s riding trail system. Opening this summer as part of the development will be the Hidden Hills Country Estates equestrian center with a riding ring, an announcer’s booth and a viewing area.

The sales office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 24399 Burbank Blvd., Woodland Hills, reached from the Valley Circle Boulevard exit of the Ventura (101) Freeway.

Cathedral City Houses

Eclectic Spanish/Mediterranean architecture is featured in Alicante, a 180-unit single-family development opening today in Cathedral City, near Palm Springs.

The 24 three- and four-bedroom houses in the first phase of the project by the Hostetler Group of Vista range in size from 1,386 to 1,858 square feet and are priced from $122,900 to $156,900. Designed by La Jolla architect Dale Naegle, the houses feature heavy overhangs, vaulted ceilings and free-flowing traffic patterns, according to builder John Hostetler.

Other design features include angled walls, glass-block walls in the bathrooms and a three-car garage in one four-bedroom floor plan.

Houses in Alicante are are fee-simple land and there is no association fee--an unusual combination in the area, Hostetler said.

Move-ins are scheduled for mid-May. Three models decorated by Suzanne Bank of Los Angeles are open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of McCallum Way and San Eljay Avenue. The tract is just off Date Palm Drive, reached from the southbound Date Palm Drive exit of Interstate 10.

Condos in Poway

Singles, couples, young families and first-time buyers are the target market of San Tropico, a 140-unit condominium development by Shea Homes opening today in Poway’s Sabre Springs master-planned community.

The 15 two- and three-bedroom units in the first phase are offered in five one-level, two-story and two-story-plus-loft plans, with 1,063 to 1,553 square feet, priced from $152,900 to $198,500. September move-ins are scheduled.

Designed by Berkus Group Architects, the condominiums feature 9-foot-high ceilings, two and three bathrooms, fireplaces, attached one- and two-car garages. The units are grouped in 28 buildings, each with five condominiums.

A monthly association fee of $153--expected to decline as the project is completed--pays for common area upkeep, including Caribbean-style landscaping, swimming pool and spa.

Five models decorated by San Diego-based Interior Profiles are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 12602 Springbrook Drive, reached from the eastbound Poway Road off-ramp of the Escondido (15) Freeway.

3 Victorville Choices

Eagle Ranch, a master-planned community by Upland-based Inco Homes, opens today in Victorville, with three single-family home tracts aimed at first-time buyers, move-up families and those looking for larger houses.

All three developments in the nearly 700-acre project--Paloverde, Ventana and Chaparral--were designed in one- and two-story early-California architectural styles by the Berkus Group, Santa Ana.

Eagle Ranch will have more than 2,000 houses when completed, with a city park, an elementary school and 70 acres zoned for commercial uses. Home buyers will not be charged an association fee, according to Ira Norris, president of Inco Homes.

Paloverde opens with 23 three- and four-bedroom houses with 1,375 to 2,105 square feet and two and three baths, priced from $112,990 to $147,990. Ventana has an initial phase of 35 four- and five-bedroom houses, ranging from 1,880 to 2,700 square feet, priced from $141,990 to $179,990. The Estates of Chaparral, the most expensive development, opens with an initial phase of 37 four- and five-bedroom houses, with 2,220 to 3,300 square feet, priced from $173,990 to $219,990. First move-ins in all three developments are planned for November and December.

Twelve furnished model homes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on the north side of Bear Valley Road adjacent to Highway 395, reached from he westbound Bear Valley Road off-ramp of the Barstow (15) Freeway.

W. Covina Townhouses

The Pointe, a 137-unit development by Trider Corp., opens today in West Covina, with a first phase of 21 two-, three- and four-bedroom townhouses priced from $185,900 to $254,900.

Designed by the Corona del Mar architectural firm of Dorius/Lorbach, the units range in size from 1,340 to 1,800 square feet. Monthly association dues of $158 pay for a clubhouse, swimming pool, spa and slope maintenance. Move-ins are planned for June.

Four models decorated by Newport Interiors, Newport Beach, are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 1823 Borrego, off Aroma Drive, reached from the northbound Azusa Avenue exit of the Pomona (60) Freeway.
