Chrysler Corp., trying to reverse a precipitous sales slide, unveiled Monday the next phase of its “Advantage: Chrysler” ad campaign with advertisements that take on the car maker deemed by many as the company setting the industry standard for automobiles--Honda.

The ads are based on an independent survey commissioned by Chrysler that show its smaller cars to be preferred overwhelmingly to similarly equipped Hondas by a random sample of 200 owners of General Motors and Ford autos considering buying imports.

The car owners were polled last month in the Los Angeles area, where sales of imports are traditionally strong.
