WORLD IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : Court Takes Appeal of ‘Ivan the Terrible’

After months of delays, the Israeli Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of John Demjanjuk, a retired Ohio auto worker sentenced to death for Nazi war crimes. Demjanjuk, 70, was convicted of being “Ivan the Terrible,” a sadistic guard who killed thousands of Jews at the Treblinka death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland. He says it is a case of mistaken identity.
