Indian Forces Kill 10 in Kashmir
Security forces shot and killed 10 people Wednesday after Kashmiri militants attacked patrols in Srinagar, witnesses and officials said. One Indian soldier died of wounds.
Militants hurled a bomb at reserve police officers who then opened fire and killed three attackers at Lal Chowk near the city center, witnesses said. Four wounded separatists later died in the hospital, officials said. Security forces sealed off the area and made house-to-house searches. One man was shot to death in his house by police, witnesses said.
In Magermal Bagh, paramilitary troops and militants exchanged gunfire and two militants were killed, witnesses said.
The toll now stands at 366 people killed since Jan. 20, when the Indian government cracked down on Kashmiris who demand the secession of Jammu and Kashmir state from India.
