Only a Weekend Park

I am compelled to address your recent editorial “A Park for the Ages,” which falsely characterized the new Aliso and Wood Canyon parks as a successful battle with developers to preserve open space for the public good.

This park is only open on the weekend. I cannot believe that this battle was much of a success. I have been told that there are no upcoming activities and no plans for the park to be open seven days. I have never heard of a public park closed Monday through Friday. Ridiculous.

What’s an even bigger rip-off is your portraying the opening ceremony as a victory for the people. It’s bad enough to have to cope with the irresponsible development in Orange County without having to read in The Times how the county fought to get the people some open space. This is no park at all.
