South Korean Kim Bong Jung retained his World Boxing Assn. strawweight title in Seoul with a split decision over Panama’s Silverio Barcenas when the fight was stopped in the fourth round because of a cut over Kim’s eye.
Kim was leading 39-37 and 39-38 on two judges’ cards and losing 39-38 on the third when the referee stopped the scheduled 12-round bout with Kim bleeding profusely from the cut. The cut was ruled to have resulted from a butt by Barcenas.
The victory improved Kim’s record to 22-5-3.
