Mike Wallace on Suicide: CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace says he was treated for clinical depression during the Westmoreland libel trial five years ago, and that he thought about suicide. “There was pain in my arms and in my legs and a sense that life was not worth living,” Wallace said in an interview on WNYW-TV Fox News in New York. The newsman was a co-defendant in Gen. William Westmoreland’s 1985 libel suit against CBS, which had reported that the general deliberately falsified estimates of enemy troop strength during the Vietnam War.
