Archdiocese Settles Suits Charging Abuse
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has settled two lawsuits out of court that accused two Catholic priests of abusing an altar boy. The terms of the settlement were not revealed, but an attorney for the anonymous plaintiff said the amount was “substantial.”
The suits had been filed against Fathers Robert Kapoun and Joseph Wajda, the local archdiocese and St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in suburban Crystal, Minn., where the abuse allegedly took place.
Jeffrey R. Anderson, attorney for the plaintiff, said he has 30 cases involving sexual abuse by Catholic priests pending against the Catholic Church, and another 10 have been settled.
