Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Blacks Cheered in Civil War Parade

A company of black soldiers from the Massachusetts 54th Volunteer Infantry Regiment, the regiment made famous in “Glory,” an acclaimed movie about black Civil War soldiers, was cheered the length of Washington’s Pennsylvania Avenue as it marched in the 125th anniversary reenactment of the Grand Review of the victorious Northern armies. The 2,000 marchers were watched by a crowd of about the same size.
