Beaver’s Hair-Raising Adventure

Imagine a world where you screw up big time, and your parents don’t punish you--they apologize instead.

You can only imagine it, but Beaver Cleaver actually lives it.

Which doesn’t mean that Beaver’s life is all milk and cookies. The little guy seems to spend most of his life trying to get out of scrapes that he has no idea how he got into. Little troubles can look mighty big at Beaver’s age.

And things look especially bad in “The Haircut,” the best-ever episode of “Leave it to Beaver” (Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. on KTLA).

Ward and June get on Beaver for losing his lunch money. So when he loses his haircut money too, he gets scared and gives himself a haircut. He hopes his work will pass for a professional job, but the bald spots make that pretty unlikely.

Beaver and Wally manage to keep Beaver’s punk look from June and Ward for a while. But when Beaver is finally found out, Ward and June blame themselves for forcing Beaver into taking such drastic action. And, instead of punishing the boys, they take them out to breakfast, and life is wonderful again.
