Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Thousands Walk in AIDS Fund-Raiser

About 25,000 people trekked 6 miles around upper Manhattan to raise $3.82 million for AIDS research in what organizers said was the world’s largest and most successful AIDS fund-raising event. The Fifth Annual AIDS Walk New York, sponsored by the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, netted almost $1 million more than last year, co-producer Craig Miller said. The first AIDS walkathon, in 1986, raised $780,000, he said.
