Man Admits Avoiding Taxes in Fraud Scheme
A former Houston office manager pleaded guilty Monday to failing to pay taxes on under-the-table kickbacks he allegedly received for purchasing overpriced office supplies from a Sherman Oaks telephone marketing “boiler room,” and for authorizing payment for supplies that his company never received.
Charles A. Young, 61, who lives in Dallas, pleaded guilty to one count of failing to file an income tax return in 1983 for $84,335 he received from National Industries of America, said Internal Revenue Service Agent Phil Hall.
Young, who had been an office manager for the Houston office of Mitsui and Co., also failed to report his regular salary of $33,416, Hall said.
Young, who is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 2, faces a year in jail and a fine of $25,000, Hall said.
