Commissioner Resigns After First Meeting

A newly appointed Lancaster city planning commissioner resigned Monday after comments he made at his debut meeting last week were criticized by the planning commission chairman and several city councilmen for being disruptive.

Commissioner Fred Brodish’s resignation was announced Monday by City Councilman George Root, who appointed Brodish to the Planning Commission. Root was elected last month on a campaign promising better planning and more scrutiny of development proposals.

Root said Brodish’s comments at the Planning Commission meeting--the commissioner sharply questioned city and school officials and criticized proposals for development around Air Force Plant 42--caused “confusion” and deviated from the agenda.

Root said Monday that he listened to a tape of the meeting during the weekend and decided to accept Brodish’s offer to resign.
