From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Singer Eddie Fisher is in the midst of an extended stay at the Betty Ford Center, the New York Daily News says. Fisher, 61, entered the drug and alcohol treatment facility three weeks ago and has agreed to stay two weeks beyond the usual monthlong stay.

The newspaper said Fisher signed himself in last month, using his mother’s maiden name, at the urging of his girlfriend, Betty Lin. The News said the recent health problems of Elizabeth Taylor, Fisher’s second wife, had greatly distressed the singer, whose other ex-wives include Debbie Reynolds, Connie Stevens and Terry Richard.
