Controversy Over Bart Simpson: ‘Underachiever and Proud of It’
Since some school administrators are taking the Bart Simpson shirt so seriously, may I address it seriously from another angle? “Underachiever” is not a label of Bart’s invention. It is one used by school systems to determine a student’s value within the system. Bart defies this label and expresses a sense of personal pride and self-worth. This is what bothers school administrators just as it appeals to kids, many who have been similarly labeled. It gives them a chance to express their personal self-worth.
