Peggy Noonan

Well golly gee, goody gum drops, I’m glad to see that an interview with Peggy, excuse me, Noonan rates up there with the global issues (“Peggy Noonan, the Woman Who Gave Presidents the Word,” Opinion, May 6). Old Peggy is really a point of light!

I liked her comments on feminism and how she’s real hip, and at the same time aware that she did fill a slot as a “woman speech writer.” She even admitted that she “tends toward” males with “authoritative personas.” What a surprise!

But hasn’t Peggy proven that one can be a serious career woman in the 1950s-television world of Republican politics by coming up with most of the mindless jingoistic national IQ-lowering catch phrases for men to use in PR campaigns? PR stands for “public relations” . . . or “President Reagan”--during the 1980s, both were roughly equivalent and both were created by Peggy Noonan. Now that we’ve passed that banal period in our history and are sifting through the wreckage, Peggy continues to prove what a heavyweight she really is in her book, articles, and now a wonderful interview in The Times complete with a blow-up of her all-American face such as you might find in those, excuse me, “exploitative tabloids!”

Golly, maybe now The Times is ready for a full-color layout, complete with an interview of and forecast by, the now famous White House astrologer!
