The air transport chief ordered Philippine Airlines today to ground all its Boeing 737-300 jetliners, two weeks after an explosion and fire on a Boeing jet killed eight people.

Oscar Alejandro, director of the Air Transport Office, said the seven 737-300 jets were being grounded so they can be inspected.

On May 11, a Boeing 737 was preparing for takeoff from Manila when an explosion and fire ripped through the passenger section. Eight of the 119 people on board were killed, and 30 were injured. The cause of the blast has not been determined.
