State Sen. David Thomas has proposed legislation that would add lawyers to the list of fair game for South Carolina hunters.

The measure, offered Thursday as an amendment to the state budget bill but later withdrawn because of the more serious matters at hand, would have set up regulations for bagging an attorney.

The legislation would have barred lawyer hunters from imitating the sound of an ambulance or using calls of “whiplash” or “free Scotch” to attract their quarry. It also would have been illegal to hunt attorneys within 100 yards of a BMW or Mercedes dealership.

The bill would have protected honest attorneys as an endangered species.
