Skid Row Hotel Owners Get 2-Month Jail Terms

The owners of a dilapidated Skid Row hotel that was closed down by the Los Angeles city attorney two weeks ago were sentenced to two-month jail terms Wednesday.

Shlomo Bina, 47, of San Marino, and Daryoush Daian, 33, of Beverly Hills were sentenced by Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn after they admitted failing to make court-ordered repairs on the Olympia Hotel at 1203 E. 7th St., and for continued slum conditions at two other Skid Row hotels.

In addition to his jail term, Daian was sentenced to 30 days on a Caltrans work crew and 100 hours of community service at the USC Hospital Burn Center. Bina had previously been sentenced to four months of Caltrans service after a previous conviction for slum conditions at the Olympia.

The two landlords were also required, under terms of the city’s rent stabilization ordinance, to pay $38,000 in relocation assistance to tenants who were moved after the city said the 43-room hotel was too dangerous for habitation.
