Charges Dropped: Prosecutors in Aspen, Colo., on Wednesday dismissed drug and explosives charges against gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, 52, saying discrepancies in the testimony of chief accuser Gail Palmer-Slater, 35, and others would make it difficult to prove the charges in court. Thompson said a “celebratory orgy” would be held at a local tavern.

Royally Late: Prince Charles and Princess Diana finally received a wedding gift nine years after they were married, when they opened the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, Scotland. The royal couple, married July 21, 1981, on Tuesday chatted with patients and toured the facility, which took years to finance and construct.

Open for Business: The Czechoslovak government on Tuesday presented Mother Teresa with the keys to a former army villa in Prague. A government statement said the facility would be available for “the old and the helpless, sick children or other disadvantaged groups.” Mother Teresa is a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
