Las Vegas Papers Win JOA Approval: U.S. Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh approved a plan to merge the business operations of the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Under the joint operating arrangement, the newspapers will maintain separate editorial and reporting staffs. There is no change in ownership involved, only a merging of advertising, printing and circulation departments. The Sun, which has been a morning paper, will become an afternoon paper publishing on weekdays, and the Review-Journal will publish only in the morning. It has been publishing an afternoon edition. A single edition with the names of both papers would be published on Saturdays and Sundays.
