Black leader Nelson Mandela, hospitalized for the removal of a benign cyst from his bladder, said Saturday that he feels fine and is looking forward to a six-week tour of Europe, the United States and Africa.

Mandela, looking tired after seven days at Johannesburg’s Park Lane Clinic, held a brief news conference along with his surgeon to discuss the bladder surgery. He is expected to be released today.

Dr. Gus Gecelter said, “There is no question that the cyst is anything but inflammatory.”

He said Mandela, 71, had experienced no adverse effects from the operation.

Routine medical checks of Mandela’s heart, lungs and abdomen were “perfectly normal,” Gecelter said.
