GARDENER’S CHECKLIST

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Install drip or other water-conserving irrigation system. Slow-drip and deep-root watering systems can save up to 60% of water used in garden care.

* Fertilize cacti and succulents for growth and flowering. Allow the winter growers to go dormant and rest until next growing season before feeding them.

* On bromeliads, cut off shoots (when they are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mother plant) during warm weather for faster and healthier growth.

* Don’t forget all the summer annuals coming into bloom at your local nursery. Bring them home for an instant color lift in your lawn and garden.
